With work and life actually being busy, and my flist still blocked at work, I've only been reading haphazardly via Google Reader, but even I have seen the fracas surrounding partly_bouncy/Laura Hale, and for the two of you who remain unaware of it, here are some links that lay it out pretty thoroughly: ithilianaliviapenndejanaastolatThe metafandom del.icio.us has more links. Two things: 1. I personally am uncomfortable whenever money and fandom collide, so the idea that someone wants to make money off what we do here repels me. Especially that she wants to sell our contact information (outdated and wrong though it might be). *shudders* I expect that from businesses I deal with, not from people who purport to be fans. Add in the fact that huge amounts of the information gathered at this so-called wiki is out of date or just plain wrong (yes, there is a page with my name on it; no, I have nothing to do with it, and it's incorrect information to boot), and not only am I repelled, I'm repulsed. 2. Outing another fan against her wishes is wrong. It is the one unbreakable rule of fandom, and should be responded to vigorously with active banning and shunning. It is low and ugly, destructive behavior that can have real life consequences, and it should not be tolerated. It is not anyone else's decision to make. I don't get truly worked up about much in fandom, but this is most definitely one of the things I do. *** Current Mood: determined Current Music: Closer to the Heart = Rush

mandolin13 @ 12:47 am: Health, Burn Notice and Muse...oh my??
Okay, this isn't really the place to go into this, but I don't want to tell my family or co-workers until I know what's going on for sure...and I want to tell someone. Long story short, I'm going to have to have a breast exam. It's probably nothing, but something has occurred that I think I need to get checked out to be safe. So. Yeah. Anyway, I'm hoping that in such a small area they'll be able to fit me in pretty quick, that way I don't have it hanging over my head. I'll post as soon as I know something for sure. Blah. What else?? In lighter news, the second season of Burn Notice has been a pleasant surprise since there's generally a sophomore slump so to speak. I'm a little worried they'll mess up the whole Fi/Michael thing, because I kind of liked how she was the one always coming on strong, but I'll wait and see what happens. As long as it doesn't become another ' who slept with who last week??,' I don't really care. Other than that, I'm this close to hanging out in the tattoo shop to find guys that are more to my taste. Seriously. Oh, and for a little something something:

July 22nd, 2008fajrdrako @ 11:53 pm: Tuesday...
An odd day: I burbled about some of my problems on one of my mailing lists, something I don't usually do. Don't usually want to do. Can't tell whether it made me feel better or not. Made French toast for supper for myself and maaseru. Explored French websites, radio stations and sites where they tutor you in French - found some good ones. Should have been doing weights and/or yoga, but went for a walk instead. Should have been cleaning up, as they'll be doing work on the floor of my apartment tomorrow, but I found it difficult to settle to anything, least of all studying French, and ended up playing Scrabulous and chatting online with Lil (who is currently in California). One useful thing I did - I phoned the Rogers cable people and switched my expensive movie channel that I never watch for a less expensive set of French TV channels, including ZTélé, the station that shows Torchwood and Doctor Who in French. Not to mention Porte des Etoiles and Alias. To bad they're not showing Buffy, La Tueureuse des Vampires. Tags: chatter
hephaestion, posting in atgstories @ 10:45 pm: To write again....?
I've been thinking of writing again. Whew - it's been a year since I've written anything! That's crazy. But I'm getting 'settled' and now it seems that my desire to tell tales has returned... So, what story should I continue or does anyone have plot bunnies they want explored? Thanks Nicolas Tags: to write or not to write...
hephaestion, posting in atgstories @ 09:21 pm: AMC featuring: ALEXANDER
Some of you might be aware that AMC is airing Alexander now quite frequently. I still think critics were too harsh with the film that was probably impossible to do...but I like to think that Oliver Stone is/was such a true fan and believer of ATG; that he had to try the impossible. I think unfortunately his biggest flaw was pushing the Roxanne relationship instead of the Hephaistion relationship into the forefront...not to mention having the possibility of Jared Leto and Colin Farrell having sex totally passed him (and us) by... musesfool @ 11:45 am: and you make it hard
Oh my god, it's not even noon and I want to kill myself and everyone else ever. I spent a considerable amount of time arranging certain meetings for old new boss (as opposed to new big boss, for whom I am expected to perform AMAZING FEATS OF SCHEDULING AT SHORT NOTICE today, but whatever), for Friday of this week. After careful checking, even though my instinct said, "Wait, he is out on vacation on Friday," I could find no documentation of that fact in the email he forwarded to me with his vacation plans (he is out next week), so I set up the meetings. He just stopped by to tell me he is on vacation on Friday, and hadn't he mentioned that? So I have to reschedule those meetings it took nearly a week of wrangling to schedule in the first place. *stabs* Other exciting things that prove it is indeed Tuesday: * I have PMS-induced insomnia, and had to take a benadryl last night around 1 am because I could not sleep; I have also reinstituted use of the hot water bottle, even though it is too damn hot to sleep with one, even with the air conditioning on, because I am already cramping intermittently, though it will be at least six days until my period actually arrives. * as I was getting dressed this morning, the light bulb in the lamp in the living room blew out. I mean, the glass didn't break, but the light was on, and then there was this big flash and it was out. I wondered if demons were on their way or something. Given how my day is going, it is a possibility. Possibly a welcome one. * The management company is putting in a new boiler (or bolier as they inevitably spell it on their notices to the tenants), so there will be no hot water on Tuesday or Wednesday. This puts a crimp in my relationship with my hot water bottle, as you can imagine. Sigh. * When I left the house, it was blindingly sunny. When I got to work, it was raining. I did not have an umbrella. I mean, I don't care so much, because it is hot and the rain felt good, and I am not wearing anything crisp or white, but I did look a bit bedraggled when I got into the office, rather than well, slightly less bedraggled, which is my normal state. I have two umbrellas in my closet here, so it is no big deal, but I was just like, 'huh, I thought it wasn't supposed to rain until later.' It is, once again, blindingly sunny. But I'm sure it will rain again just in time for the evening commute. * Some random woman nearly stabbed me in the eye with her umbrella as I attempted to cross Third Avenue. * There was a lady on the bus this morning having her own kind of day - her blouse was on inside out. I was not sure what, if anything, one should say in such a situation, so I said nothing. Possibly it is the new fashion. That is what I tell myself when I discover I've done it. I am a trendsetter, darling, and don't you forget it.I have been trying to write this post on and off for about an hour now, but work keeps interrupting. Sigh. Possibly I should have a tag for AMAZING FEATS OF SCHEDULING. That would amuse me, at least. *** Current Mood: anxious Current Music: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - CSNY

So, I got a tattoo today! It didn't hurt as badly as I thought it would, and Aidan (who came to hold my hand) said I was very stoic, so I think that means I win. It didn't really start to hurt until he went over the black ink outline for the third time, and then the white ink hurt like a son-of-a-bitch, as did the orange. Right now it really doesn't hurt at all, so I'm just concerned with keeping it clean and hydrated and stuff. Hopefully, it'll heal pretty quickly, and I won't do anything stupid to it. This should link to a photo, but we'll see.I'm really proud of it. I think it's beautiful, and a little simple, and I'm glad I got the font to work out just right. (It's the font from the Pretty. Odd. lyric booklet, and when I got to the shop today the guy who was helping with my design said he'd lost the example I'd given him. Luckily, I brought an extra with me. I was attached to that font, damnit!) And, now, for those who get tired of my blathering, ( a cut while I blather about how and why I decided to get this tattoo in the first place )For all y'all that skipped that, I feel you. *laughs* In short, I'm really glad I did it, and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Aaaaand now I get to get up tomorrow and do PTIs, just like I'll be doing ALL WEEK because God hates me. Although, I did have the World's Best Prize Winning PTI today. It involved a trailer park and a gun and crack cocaine and other bad soap-opera shenanigans. Just saying. Current Mood: inked Current Music: TAI... About a Girl

Highlight of the day: going to Dairy Queen with maaseru. I made a souffle for supper. At one point, needing something from a low cupboard, I just squatted down to get it - no problem. I couldn't believe it. Had a little trouble getting back up, but I was amazed by the careless ease of doing something I couldn't even imagine a week ago. Also saw How do you solve a problem like Maria?, the second last results show. My favourite (Janna) is still in the running. Good! And I loved the way Andrew Lloyd Weber teases John Barrowman. I am very tired of people trying to reschedule meetings they agreed to in the first place. STOP DOUBLEBOOKING, PEOPLE! On the upside, I am over the minimum thousand words for my summergen story, so hopefully I will be less freaked out about it now. I like how it's going so far, anyway. I mean, I still think it will be very obvious which story is mine, but I am okay with that! Mostly I am posting because I have just paid the most ridiculous amount of money for lunch ever. I mean, it doesn't sound terrible, $9, until you realize that all I have is an iced cappuccino and a small bowl of strawberries. I mean, the strawberries are good - I had some really good ones this weekend as well, though all the nectarines I saw were squashy and overripe, which was sad-making - but I feel like charging nearly $5 for a small bowl of them (not by weight) is highway robbery. Ooh, breaking news. The Giants finally traded Shockey to the Saints. You know, I liked him and wanted him to do well with the Giants, and I understood his point (I wanted him more involved in downfield passing as well, but they wanted him because he's a really good run blocker), but he turned into a whiny prima donna, and they won the Super Bowl without him, so goodbye and good riddance, I guess. *** Have a poem: Weavesand then life happens anyway notwithstanding efforts and complaints all your plans for an ordered life swept away as a house of cards the side exposed to the flesh to the breath of a single word of a gesture that disarranges the warp of a clue that changes the destiny. and little by little understand that it is not the great events that affect your life but the thin threads that change the picture and guide the texture. July 20th, 2008fajrdrako @ 10:35 pm:
My television wish list... - A Doctor Who spin-off about Jenny's adventures.
- A series about Captain Jack Harkness in his time-travelling Time Agent days, before he met the Doctor. In which he remains a hero.
- A Torchwood series which retains the adult themes of series 11, but is better written and which focusses heavily on Captain Jack Harkness. In which Captain Jack is flirty with many people, and our attractive female characters make out with each other.
- A Torchwood spin-off giving us the adventures of Captain John Hart.
- A retcon or reboot of Battlestar Galactica back to the end of the season before this one, in which Starbuck is still a feisty warrior, Sharon is the only Cylon on Galactica, and Six is still in Baltar's head.
- A return of Claude the Invisible Man to Heroes. Preferably (occasionally) visible.
- In Doctor Who: for Donna to stay with the Doctor for at least another series, and Rose never to be mentioned again. Don't get me wrong: I like Rose. I even like Rose, the warrior of Torchwood. But do I want to see her again? No.
- A revisit to Russell T Davies' Queer as Folk. Oh. Looks as if I'm getting my wish. Yay!
- More Sarah Jane Adventures - and I'm getting that, too. Double yay! Extra wish: a few guest appearances by the Doctor.
1 By adult I mean: clever plots, less violence, more sex.Tags: doctor who, heroes, torchwood, tv
musesfool @ 09:26 pm: think about those questions, would you?
I'm watching "The Midterms" and i always always forget it's this episode where Jed nails the talk radio show host. Bartlet: Forgive me, Dr. Jacobs. Are you an M.D.?
Jenna Jacobs: Ph.D.
Bartlet: A Ph.D.?
Jenna Jacobs: Yes, sir.
Bartlet: In Psychology?
Jenna Jacobs: No sir.
Bartlet: Theology?
Jenna Jacobs: No.
Bartlet: Social work?
Jenna Jacobs: I have a Ph.D. in English Literature.
Bartlet: I'm asking, 'cause on your show, people call in for advice and you go by the name of Dr. Jacobs on your show. And I didn't know if maybe your listeners were confused by that, and assumed you had advanced training in Psychology, Theology, or health care.
Jenna Jacobs: I don't believe they are confused, no sir.
Bartlet: Good. I like your show. I like how you call homosexuality an abomination.
Jenna Jacobs: I don't say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President. The Bible does.
Bartlet: Yes, it does. Leviticus.
Jenna Jacobs: 18:22
Bartlet: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. (small chuckles from the guests) She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, and always clears the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff, Leo McGarry, insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2, clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important, 'cause we've got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean, Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother, John, for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads?
[Jenna Jacobs fidgets uncomfortably.]
Bartlet: Think about those questions, would you? One last thing, while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tightass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits.
[Jenna Jacobs squirms in her seat but doesn't rise. Bartlet glares meaningfully at her. She finally rises out of her seat.]
Bartlet: Toby.
Toby: Yes, Mr. President.
Bartlet: That's how I beat him. ♥ ♥ ♥ ~*~ Current Mood: pleased Current Music: West Wing: The Midterms

Okay, see, this is the thing. When you post publicly on the internet, you are posting publicly on the Internet. You may think that only the fifty people who have you friended and don't filter you out are reading, and 99% of the time, you are probably correct. However. You are still posting publicly on the internet. You can turn off robots and minimize your inclusion in search engines, and as long as you are posting publicly on the internet, you can still be found pretty easily. You know how? There's this little thing called del.icio.us (and a dozen other sites just like it), where people bookmark things they like. And share them with other people looking for things they like. So while you are thinking "hey, there's nobody here but us chickens fangirls," the truth of the matter is, ANYBODY can find your public posts, and ANYBODY can read them, if they are public. I put BDSM into the del.icio.us search box. It is not a topic I am personally interested in, but let's say I was looking for articles about safe, sane, consensual BDSM because I was, and let's say I wasn't in fandom. I just wanted to know. Do you know that the seventh, eighth, and tenth links on the search are for fanfic - two are bandom, one is SGA. If you search for pegging, the top link is some kind of computer thingy, and then every other link on the first page is fanfic (with the exception of the wikipedia definition of pegging). If you put in supernatural, you get one link to the James Randi Foundation and everything else is SPN fic (on the first page). So this is the thing. I agree that the one real unbreakable rule of fandom should be thou shalt not publicly out another fan. I am not even arguing with that. Fans don't out other fans, and those who do should be taken out back and shot shunned. As much as anybody ever is, in fandom, anyway. And I agree that there are nuances, and context to be taken into account, and that fans oughtn't be throwing other fans to the wolves, and I understand that this particular discussion is going on in terms of fannish norms and how we behave within the community, but I think people forget that the internet is a lot bigger than fandom (even fandom is a lot bigger than most people in LJ fandom seem to realize, and I am not even talking about the large numbers of lurkers who seldom if ever make themselves known). You don't need a fellow fan to post a link to you someplace you'd rather they didn't, and I'd like to think most fans wouldn't do that, but someone could stumble upon (see what I did there?) your publicly posted underage incestuous gay BDSM wizard porn without ever being in fandom in the first place. It's kind of how the internet works. If you feel like commenting that we (i.e., fandom as a whole) are under the radar, I'd really like you to explain how (and also, what crack are you smoking, and please to share it with the class). (Thanks to snacky for looking this over.)~*~ Current Mood: incredulous Current Music: Mets-Reds on tv

Morning: Tim Horton's coffee with maaseru and maaboroshi, then exercising with my trainer Lynne, and Lisa. Was a little surprised how much I could do, and how my the Foot could do. It was a good session. Then we went to Cora's for lunch, and talked about various things, including my job, or impending lack thereof. It was a little depressing. Then: my place, to watch Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and then The Moonstone with iclysdale, commodorified and auriaephiala. Then we went for a walk - barefoot in the park for a good part of it. commodorified is especially good at Foot-coaching. raynedaze joined us and we watched three episodes of Due South: 'The Blue Line', 'The Deal' and 'An Invitation to Romance'. I liked 'The Deal' very much - perhaps the best of the episodes I've seen so far. Tired. Taking the Foot to bed now. Tags: chatter, due south, tv
